Salvation Army Collection for November – food and winter coats

During the month of November the Board of Christian Education is encouraging you to help fill up the table with much needed items. After talking with someone at the Salvation Army, their food supply is VERY low and the following items are needed: canned meat products (i.e. tuna, salmon, chicken, Spam), Beef Stew, Chef Boyardee ravioli, beefaroni, spaghetti & meatballs, peanut butter & jelly, hearty soups—Chunky brand, Progresso, etc, paper products, coffee. They said they get a good supply of vegetables from the food bank, but are in great need of items that people can just open and have as a meal. The shelves at the Salvation Army are bare so there is a great need for food, especially with the onset of winter quickly approaching!

There is also a need of winter boats, boots, hats, gloves, mittens and blankets. If you have clean, gently used items please bring them to the church by November 13th and we will make sure they get to the Salvation Army. Thank you for your continued support of this local mission. May God contribute to bless your giving.

Samaritan’s Purse / Operation Christmas Child

Shoeboxes will be due November 13th. There are a couple of different ways that you can help: 1— you choose to donate money and/or supplies for us to put together shoeboxes; 2—you can put together a box yourself or as a family. There is a list of suggested supplies for the boxes in the narthex to help you put your box together. If you’d like to donate items, here are some specific items that are needed for shoeboxes: bars of soap, combs, brushes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, candy – suckers, hard candy, gum, kids shirts – new or like new quality, school supplies.  Please reach into your hearts and know that putting together a simple shoebox can mean more than a few smiles and laughter.  These simple gifts become Gospel opportunities opening hurting hearts to experience the power of Jesus Christ.

Board of Christian Education

The Board of Christian Education met on Tuesday, September 6th at 7:30pm and discussed the following:

  • Rally Day—Everyone attending Sunday School on September 11th will gather in the sanctuary to kick-off the new Sunday School year.  The balloon release will follow.  We will also provide cupcakes and juice for the refreshments after worship.  Pastor Scott & April will pass out Bibles to our 3rd graders during worship.
  • Worm Sunday School – some of the teachers will meet to discuss the lesson focus for this year.  September lessons are taken care of and a sign up will be passed as soon as things are decided for the remainder of the year.
  • Salvation Army collection for October will be items for school cold lunches ~ fruit snacks, granola bars, juice boxes, snack-size items, or as always anything you wish to donate is always greatly appreciated.
  • Fall Party—October 23rd after worship.  There will be crafts,  “Trunk or Treating”, and a hayride, weather   permitting.  The congregation is asked to bring food according to their last name:
    • A-H Desserts
    • I-Q finger foods/cheese/veggies
    • R-Z appetizers/sandwiches.

The Board of Christian Education will provided chicken noodle soup and chili along with place settings and drinks.

Samaritan’s Purse / Operation Christmas Child

Now is that time of year again when everyone is getting ready to head back to school! And that means shopping for school supplies. It is a great time to take advantage of big deals out there and think of the different items that can be put into the Samaritan’s Purse boxes for the fall!

School supplies are great for all ages and will make a child’s day when they receive a box! It is also a good time to pick up some “end of summer items” or clothing items to put in there too. So, the next time you go shopping, think of those other children in need and take the time to buy something for them too. It will make a difference!

There will be a drop off spot in the Narthex starting in October to put the boxes that you bring. There will also be a donation box and other collection boxes if you would like to just donate different items.

Dollar store items work very well too. Whatever you choose, thank you. You are helping to reach out to children who may otherwise not have a Christmas. There will also be brochures and check off lists if you are unsure about what to put into a box.

If you have any questions, feel free to talk with Valerie Wymer or April at the Church Office. All supplies for packing boxes are needed by October 30th.  Completed boxes should be to the church by November 13th.

Box Tops For Education

box tops for education imageWe would like to encourage you to look for the Box Top for Education labels on items that you purchase.  Each box top is worth 10 cents and will be used to help the schools.  It’s much like collecting Campbell’s soup  labels.  Please place your labels and box tops in the box under the table at the bulletin board and we will make sure they get delivered to the school.  Thank you for helping our students.
